I agree with most of what you said, but I don't think people should "write off" discount stores for flipping. Places like Saks Off 5th Ave, Neiman Marcus Last Call and Nordstrom Rack are your more High-End discounts, but there's still some decent flips to be made there.

Awhile back I posted a huge pile of 50 NWT Zegna ties... Those were all discount-stored. I wouldn't have bought all those if I couldn't make good profit margins on em lol. The key is to go on days when they have big sales, and stock up... Sometimes it also helps to have store rewards cards or w/e.

Now we've acquired all kinds of crazy stuff from discount shops, but one of the flips that I'll always remember was a Martin Dingman Alligator Belt. Copped at Nordy Rack for $60, flipped for $300 in less than a week. That was nice.

Very impressive! I wish I had bought that belt haha!

Hells yeah. Furnished my apartment with free/thirft/found/Craigslist furniture. In the process of selling it all off for a profit to fund the purchase of a quality couch. Profit margins on free can't be beat.

Actually you are very right. I have seen a lot of very nice designer furnature go for some good prices. I saw a button tufted couch once that looked really superb, but I don't own a house XD

First, when I think discount store in the same sentence as thrift, I'm actually thinking resale shops. We have probably the best resale shops in the country next to New York here. Any day of the week you can walk in and walk out with Comme Des Garcons, Dior Homme Jeans for 100-150, Thom Browne Oxfords for 45 etc.. but the margins aren't there unless you come up on some rare Hedi Diors like the Original Clawmarks or the Under My Cars....as far as actual discount stores go, mine and yours are two very ******* different stories. Zegna doesn't show up in my Marshalls or Rack neither does Brioni or Ricci or any other premium ties you guys are getting at your local discount shops. My stores top out at Talbott and Vineyard Vines. I think this may be due to the fact that the money here is buying the product once it goes on sale at the original store so the discounts aren't able to even get there hands on it at liquidation. Either way I've written those places off completely, they ******* suck here.

I literally tested this theory for the first time yesterday and I almost agree with you. I came up on some rare Japanese **** that fell through the cracks, a vintage penfeild wool hooded red and black lumberjack for 6 bucks, a Drakes x Barneys dress shirt for 4 bucks, Harvie and Hudson Dress shirt for 4 bucks....**** doesn't pay out as well as the nicer thrifts and you need a a gallon of sanitizer when you leave those places, but there ******* fun thrifting for sure....but if Goodwill is too sterile for you, you get fuckin gutter homie cuz I keep a pump bottle of sanitizer in my car strictly for whenever I have a urge to test out a goodwill.

Yeah that wasn't really the MOST profittable item I've ever sold, but it was a handsome profit. That happened about 1.5+ yrs ago, and since then I've always looked for another one. It was a $395 belt, and they had it priced at $59.97 lol. Dunno how they messed that up so bad.

I think some of the better sales are like "Buy 1 Get 2 Free" at NMLC or Saks Off 5th. Let's say there's 6 NWT Brunello Cucinelli sweaters there for like $300 ea. You buy 2, and get the other 4 for free... So that works out to $100 ea. $100 ea for sweaters that have a $995 MSRP is a pretty good deal. However, you really have to time it just right... and of course get lucky with high-end stuff being there.

We had a store card at one time, and I think that brought down the price of things another 30%.... Just be careful if you get one, as those store cards have craploads of fees and high interest rates. They're only really worth having short term, or just 1 time for an epic haul.

Ok, obviously Dutch thrifting will not likely come close to all the awesomeness in this thread, but I'm still pretty happy with my latest find.

Apparently there is a new goodwill just a few blocks from my house which I happened to drive past today. Didn't have much time, but the stock seemed pretty decent (for Dutch standards).

No time to really go through all racks, but I did happen to grab this from a € 2 tie bin:

In the last picture there is a smudge from a label. Any thoughts on removing that?

The colors are quite hard to capture (reddish brown with dark mossy green, but sort of hue-changing or something).
Haven't decided if I will embrace it in my wardrobe or put on ebay.

Cuz I thrifted this NIB Rebel SL1 today.

Wow.... and your gonna love it, got a Canon Rebel as well and the thing is awesome just be sure to get a gray card so your white balance is perfect and you capture exact product color. I believe I recall on automode the Nikons didn't need this, but it's a must on Canons. Just a heads up but you're probably already well aware.
