I thought this episode had some pretty good fights overall. Excellent fights considering the season as a whole.
I was sad to see Marcus go down like that, but Schaub is starting to look like a giant-killer. Kid has sick skills.

Despite the Rampage/Rashad fight not happening, I think the Season Finale this weekend is going to be pretty entertaining. Kimbo is going to bang with Alexander, Big Baby is going to (hopefully) beat the crap out of Mitrione, and I have no idea what to think of the Nelson/Schaub fight. It will be interesting to see what happens.

In other words, in addition to be grasping for excitement, they are also hypocrites. I thought it was the UFC's official or unoficial policy to never have guys who have had tension on the show scrap it out in a UFC match. They didn't want a street-fight to be extended, in pure soap-opera fashion, into the cage.

edit: and was anyone else weirded out by the poem that mcsweeney's coach recited to mcsweeney in preperation for his fight against nelson? It was terrible.

Wow, so just finished watching, good fights.

For the finale I have:

Maincard
Schaub vs Nelson (T)KO
Hamill vs Jones UD
Slice vs Alexander TKO
Edgar vs Veach by Sub
Jones vs Mitrione by (T)KO

Undercard
******* vs McSweeney UD
Madsen vs. Wren UD

I also think it's no surprise that two of the three ex-football players made it to the finale. That type of size and strength mixed with speed is a really, really scary combination.

You mean like Rampage and Rashad?

You guys mean to tell me I watch and watch and watch, and then I stop watching, and THEN the fights get good? I shall now slap myself in the forehead.

Don't feel bad; "good" is a relative term.

The last episode, which was 2 hours with 4 fights, had by far and away the best fights of the season. It is relative though, most of them were over very quickly. The guys who are coming out on top have an interesting mix; Roy Nelson dominates on the ground due to his grappling skills and his physical size/weight, Brendon Schaub is a definite powerhouse in the stand up, I haven't seen his chin tested yet but I could definitely see him evolving into a top ten heavyweight in the UFC, Big Baby has some decent bjj and some decent stand up, I cannot wait to see how he turns out at the live finale this saturday (Mittrione is definitely going to get murdered in his fight with Big Baby).

Bunch of really good fights last night, none going to decision. I was shocked that Schaub was able to escape Jones' full mount; I thought the fight was over right there. Once the fight got back to the feet, Schaub had it in the bag, as Big Baby's standup is terrible.

I predicted at the beginning of the show that Nelson would win, and I'm sticking by that prediction. Nelson by big belly suffocation + crucifix, round 2. Big Baby is going to football tackle Mitrione (Schaub described Jones' takedown as a "giant dark tsunami wave") and beat the crap out of him.

Manhoef got signed to Strikeforce, going to fight Lawler on December 19.

Christ, that sounds amazing. Hopefully it actually happens.

Not really. The tension between Rashad and Rampage is in anticipation of a fight, whereas Mittrione and Marcus' fight comes off as being predicated on tension and tension alone.

I know that doesn't make it sound any better. And it's very grey. But I always understood White to say that a UFC fight would never be given to two guys where the fight seemed an extension of a non-fight related tiff. The tiff Marcus instigated against Mittrione was obviously fight-related in the broadest sense but it really had nothing sensible about it - Marcus was being a goof. So that the fight between Mittrione and Marcus this Saturday almost seems like a what if scenario.

It was like in season 5 or 6 or whatever tuf when those two guys had a fight in the backyard and one of the guys slammed the other guys head on the concrete. People would have liked to see that fight in the cage. But Dana's response was basically, "Never! We don't let people settle personal scores in the cage".

Of course, this must have become a later development since he did allow Koscheck and Leben to do just that in season 1. I don't know, DW doesn't seem very clear on what he considers a valid fight and an invalid excuse for one.

I'm hoping that it will be because Schaub gets cocky, smiles, and drops his hands.

Then we would be able to say that Greg Jackson fighters are notorious for getting cocky in the cage, dropping their hands, and teasing their opponents to hit them.

Of course, that's exactly what happened to Rashad v. Machida, and McSweeney the douche v. Nelson.

Didn't Junie Browning have a fight in the house with Efrain Escudero, after which they settled it in the Octagon? Maybe the difference is that Junie was just being an ass, while Marcus seemed like he really wanted to hurt Matt.

I'm pretty sure that there was personal beef between the two, which is why they were picked to coach, not vice versa.

That being said, if you never allowed two people to fight who got in each other's faces - nobody would ever fight. All we know is what we've seen on the show. What if Dana sat Mitrione and Marcus down and Marcus profusely apologized for getting emotional? The Big Baby/Meathead match was set up waaay earlier in the season, when everyone thought Mitrione leaked Rashad's fight strategy because he was afraid to fight Marcus. Maybe this was Mitrione's idea. Who knows?

No punches were thrown. They never even touched each other. I would think thats a different thing than say a McSweeny/Jensen fight, for example.

I wouldn't like to see McSweeney vs. Jensen, because, from all indications, McSweeney "The Douche", would win. I would love to see McSweeney fed to a real Muy Thai fighter - Wandy, for example. Ooohhh, that beatdown would be fun to watch.
