Shininess wears down after a bit.

Fun fact, the Riders (Norvegese) aren't totally waterproof if you submerse them in the puddles.  This is probably an expected result.

LOL i'm pretty sure that unless there is a storm welt and shoe is made for waterproofing most of the shoes we talk about in this thread drown

Storm welt doesn't waterproof the shoe either. It just stops drops of water dripping into the welt, but if it's submerged of course water can get in.

And anyway, leather isn't waterproof.

"shoe is made for waterproofing" i.e. galoshes
Well, you can make shoes with a Goretex mid-liner and taped seams at the welts, and those are pretty close to being actually waterproof. But yeah, I don't have nor have I ever seen boots here that would be called "waterproof" by anyone scrupulous. They will probably do okay in a place with intermittent rain, or even a rainy but not cold city like San Francisco. Anywhere where this is snow buildup in the winter and spring slush? Fuggedaboutit.

S49M is the 7 hole non lifted model. Looks like heavy waxed horse (XC01) from the way the leather is wearing at the top of the shaft on the right boot. The boot you posted has a slightly shorter shaft than most S49M's models I've seen so perhaps one of the strange off shoots that started appearing later.

You may be right on the xc01. I'm just curious if those side panels are actually linen. The more I look at the picture it seems the sides do not reflect light the same as the horse so maybe they are linen. ???

That's not linen, it's just the reverse horse that has been worn down quite a bit. Linen must be a mistake

Even the side panels? I think I remember seeing this half linen/ half reverse leather unicorn somewhere before. I may be wrong though.

I could be completely wrong as usual, but I've never seen a combo material boot like that and it looks a lot like worn-down suede?? Do you have a link?
