    +1 Very tricky.

You also might consider the cap toe boot on the Barrie last that Alden SF has (had?) in #8 and black shell. I actually prefer the boot first because it is on the Barrie (I size down in the Grant last but the toe box is a little snug) and second because it doesn't have the metal eyelets (dresses the boot up a little IMO).

And yes, they have speedhooks (I'm not sure what all the fuss is about - I have never had a problem with speedhooks, you can't see them and they make it much easier/quicker to put on/take off - but that's just me...)

applky thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I would not have the chance to try them to feel the difference.

After searching through the various posts, i've come to the conclusion that, in the same size - both the Grant and Barrie are similar in length, the Barrie is bigger in the heel, the Grant is smaller in the toebox.

Some people have gotten the same size in both (relying on whatever stretch they could get from the shells for the Grant to loosen up a little), while some size up by half from their Barrie size on the Grant.

Please correct me if I'm wrong here gentlemen. Thanks in advance.

^ All eyelets have a cleaner, sleeker look, and do not pull out the hem of your dress trousers as speed hooks will do.

Thanks, mcarthur. I was just wondering if you've ever posted a photo of your entire Alden collection.

I think part of the issue is that J Crew seems to have someone wear their boots for a little while before they photograph them. You can see the creases starting to set, which may make them look a little flat. We'll see just how bad they look when mine arrive next week ;)

I think I checked the Aldens yesterday afternoon, and there were plenty left online. Either they had a huge run at the end of the sale last night, or they just took them down altogether.

Looks like the "STAYWARM" promotion at J.Crew has been extended till midnight tonight... that being said, a search for "Alden" on the site now only brings up 4 items (2 of which are listed as out of stock).

yeah, it looks like they deliberately gave it a scrunched up "pose" for the picture. I guess the J Crew customer is perceived to like things with a worn-in look

I was there last weekend and don't remember seeing that. I do remember seeing a Chukka with commando sole. Lots of whiskey and cigar shells.

So I got my Whiskey Longwings back today from Alden. I got them earlier this year and they were 2 toned, so Alden told me to send them back.

Reminder: this is what they used to look like:

The left shoe was clearly 2 different colors. Alden sent them back to me "refinished." I have absolutely no idea what color the shoes are now

For comparison purposes, here are the refinished "whiskey" longwings next to a whiskey indy and ravello chukka

So at first I had a pair of whiskey longwings where the left shoe was 2 shades of orange. Now I have no idea what I have.

It looks like they just dyed them a darker color to cover up the inconsistency of the whiskey shell.

yup. I think thats exactly what they did. The new color isn't bad imo, but I you wanted WHISKEY longwings, I'd be pissed....

I kind of like that new color better although I'd definitly be pissed if you wanted the lighter whiskey color.

They're too small for me anyway, so I was going to sell them. I don't know what to do now. These are a completely different shoe than what I paid for.
