Can you honestly say that there's a big difference in style here?

Hi all,

I'm looking to get a nice pair of Alden cordovans. I tried on a pair yesterday in a shop, and my heel was slipping a tad in the one size that seemed best. (Going down or wider was definitely too small.) The guy said that cordovan doesn't stretch, so the size I tried on is more or less what it's going to be.

Is that your experience as well? I thought I might try to find a cheap pair of used aldens and wear them for a while before getting new ones, but that seems sort of silly, becuase used aldens seem to go for almost as much as new ones.

As long as your foot is not moving around in the shoes, some light heel slipping is normal on new Alden's. It goes anyway once the soles have been worn around for a bit.

^ thanks for the fit pic of the AF89, I have been considering getting those for a while among some other black boot possibilities but was hesitant because they looked much clunkier in the stock photos of the Alden of Carmel website, but yours look great, kinda sealed the deal for me.

Yes, and it's also what was told to me by two very experienced Alden salesmen.

My indy's are developing a really nice patina. After six months of constant wear:
