1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Noob question: do all of the Alden colors have #'s associated with them, like #8?

And is cordovan the name of the color #8?

Horween (who makes the leathers) is the one who gives them numbers. There are four colors specifically named by number (2,4,6,8) with secondary names attached. Whether other colors refered to by name have numbers isn't clear to me but at least some do. For example, most people discuss the color "cigar" only by that name, while it is Horween color #449. Horween and the various shoemakers (such as Alden) aren't as obvious about the number for their leathers. I've actually wondered if anyone could root out all the proper numbers for the shell colors, it would be interesting.

Some shoe manufacturers use 'cordovan' to denote a burgundy type colour very similar to the Horween #8. I believe the reason shell cordovan carries the name it does is due to the type of horse and the area of the horse the leather comes from. Shell denotes the section of the hide (the shell) which comes from around the buttocks of the beast. Cordovan is from the fact the the original horses used in the manufacture of cordovan leather were from Cordoba in Spain.

Do you have a preorder for the #4 or just playing the waiting game?

I thought TSM was the only place that had the #4 boots in Wingtip and Cap Toe but Alden could not supply their entire order so they cancelled it. I know a few pair did make it though.

Aloha from Hawaii guys! Just had a quick question. Up until this point, I've only bought Alden's, but never had to sell any. In your experience, what's a good starting price to ask for? The shoes are #8 LHS and brand new, but just don't work well with my feet. Any input would be appreciated.

Brand New #8 never worn outside. I'd pay $500...maybe $550 if it's an odd size/not available or rare shell...
