I've had a heck of a time finding shell LHS that fit. I've got 2 pairs of the lined calf version that work well in a 9D. I figured that size would be the way to go on 986s, but it turns out they are too loose and will be going up for sale soon. Also tried a 9C in the past and that was too narrow. Is it common to take different sizes for different LHS versions?

Just noticed Brogue has a handsewn penny on the copley - maybe a 9D in one of those would be the ticket given the narrower heel?

Man, whoever said it would be cheaper and better to just fly somewhere with a good selection and get fitted in multiple lasts was right!

Never, ever try to buy a loafer without proper on-site fit first.

I was just checking - the annual price increase took black/color 8 cordovan boots to the mid $900s 😲

Inflation hits everything, but that’s getting very pricey. I have a few orders for 2023 but they will definitely be on a downtrend
While I don’t feel priced out yet, footwear in $900-1k range from other brands with better QC make more sense. I always thought of Alden as a ‘middle’ tier brand, but for pricing now and going forward there’s just better options up stream

Very happy to present Whiskey Shell Cordovan Wingtip Boots on 379X last in size US13E.
1st Alden Wingtip Boot
1st Alden Whiskey Shell Cordovan
1st Alden Boot on 379X last (all others are on Trubalance)
1st Alden Rare Shell from used market (2nd Rare Shell overall, 1st being a new Ravello Indy)
All these 1sts courtesy of a fellow Styleforum member who is very kind and the reason for both my rare shell boots! You know who you are & I am very grateful.
Finding US13E rare shells is pretty much impossible at this point!
379X is as comfortable as Trubalance, if not more. The waist is closer and provides higher arch support.

Switching things up a little (running late for the bus) as I usually dress things up a little on Thursdays. Oh well, fairly nice weather day so the boots get a break. Unlined from BB is so incredibly comfortable…….
