IME, the secret to selling on B&S is generosity. When I sell things here I price thinking about how I 'd like others to price (and the really great deals I've got from other members).

FM, I agree that generosity helps, but I think the mentality on B&S typically begs for more than generosity. Most items listed are already, in most cases, 60% off retail.

I have made some great deals with individuals on here; we continue to purchase from one another, but we both understand and respect the game.

I agree with G, here on SF, there is an expectation to be able to attain steals since discounted prices can be had on many other sources. There is also some pride on getting something at a crazy price. The difficulty is we compare prices from MSRP; however, many times items are picked up during sales so I believe buyers compare their identified 'sale' price to how much that compares to the B&S listed price.

I think this rationale fits more with pre-owned items. When items are new, in a common size, where an extreme discount doesn't always need to happen for a sale.

Hey FM, by "mentality", I mean that many people feel entitled to an astronomical discount just because something is being offered for sale. Mentality-I recently had a Cucinelli Coat, which I got for half off (a little less than 2K). If I was able to market to Cucinelli's typical buyers-easy sale. But in B&S, I received offers for $500 and lower, although I already marked down 50% from my purchase price.

DpprDr, many times people make false assumptions that items are picked up on sale. For instance, I have purchased items at near retail and then they got further discounted and sold out by whatever store. Individuals on B&S assume they were had at that price (further marked down) and should be given further discount, based on the price of the now sold-out item. I do my best not to sell pre-owned on B&S anymore, unless it's something I believe someone on here would appreciate.

I think people who have been here for some time understand the marketplace and the great values it offers.
