I'm basing my opinion on some photos that were posted here a while ago: they were boxy and shapeless: the total opposite of their bespoke line. I could not believe how bad they looked. Perhaps they've changed since.

If you wanted dark brown, I would recommend the 6-ply in Drapers Ascot. I got a pair in it. It's great. There's also a 4-ply version, but I like the 6-ply version better. I think there might be more of a mid-brown in both 4- and 6-ply in the book.

Remind me, 6-ply is ~equivalent weight wise to the heavier Minnis fresco? 15 oz or so?

Maybe go the bespoke route first to get your pattern figured out?

480g/m according to Drapers. So, yeah, 14/15 oz. It breathes quite well, and I think wears fairly cool. Probably not the best for really hot days--what is?--but very wearable in the Bay Area.

I like Holland and Sherry Crispaire for this purpose. Open weave but smoother than Minnis Fresco.

Visited Steed in yesterday to get some tweaks made my first commission and also to show them the fit of the finished second commission, a beautiful grey tweed from Fox Bros that I expect to wear a lot in the coming months:
