Tattoos - a fashion statement?

I would consider it a statement or body art. Fashion changes but a tattoo is forever, like art. Some appreciate the art and others do not. If you do consider it fashion, great. Just my opinion, not fact.

I have many friends with tattoos, I personally think they look great. Why hide them?

Tribal tattoos are a little different. Nothing wrong with them but the ladies should really take care of themselves if they plan on continued exposure over the years. Nothing worse than an aging tribal tattoo buried in a sea of lower back fat. Nothing wrong with tons of lower back fat, if you have it, please try and keep it hidden under a shirt.

Tattoos might well reflect part of who we are or part of our personal stories. However, just like I do not go telling every stranger intimate secrets about myself, I do not want to share with the world, daily, what part of my life story a tattoo tells. Also, you will be judged by certain circles, merely for having a tattoo. Disregarding this at 18 is easy, but a bit harder in your 30s if you live in the corporate world and are rather happy with all that brings you.

I have three large tats, all custom drawn for me. One is a dragon and snake, intertwined, that wraps around one of my calves. My wife is a dragon in the Chinese zodiac, and I am a snake. I also have a large, very cool looking dragon, sitting on a wall sconce, on one of my thighs. I have a big Celtic knotword on one of my deltoids. The only one I semi-regret is the calf one. I should have put it around my other thigh, as it shoes when wearing shorts.

I like tats, I just think you need to think twice, and then think again, about how they might affect you in all facets of your life, for your entire life.

btw, this being your first tattoo, just go for it. It's a long mile walk to the first, a short hop skip to the 2nd (and beyond)
