I bought a beautiful tan suit from Macy's the other day. It fits well except for in one place; the width of the sleeves. I am 6ft 280 and not flabby and an ex college football player. I'm trying to avoid the hassle of having suits custom made and was hoping that this is something a tailor could fix. Can a tailor widen the sleeve around the bicep for me? Or should I return the suit?

sorry there is no cloth inside the sleeves to use to make it larger.

You have it the wrong way. You go the made to measure route (I assume this is what you mean by custom made) to avoid hassles--hassles precisely such as this one. So now you have a suit that does not fit, a full waste of money, when if you had gone custom, you would have gotten a more expensive suit and something that fits spot on, a perfect expenditure.

Definitely return the suit if you can. Most off-the-rack suits don't have much fabric to let out. Made-to-measure is a good alternative if you don't want to invest in bespoke right now.
