I did it as a teenager in the 80's, but that was then and I was much younger...

Unless you're able to wear slim Dior Homme, it isn't a particularly nice look, but it is preferable to a polo shirt under a suit jacket. I really, really hate that.

I hate both polos and t-shirts under suit jackets or blazers.

I also cannot stand the look of t-shirts or polos with a suit or blazer. I would only do this if my chest was bigger than 48 and I was a bouncer at a strip club.

+1. Just terrible. I am old enough to remember fashions of the 80s. Enough said.

If you've got the build it can look pretty good. Jude Law did it a lot with a v-neck, but you need a lot of confidence.

The problem with this look is simply this:

It's very hard to pull off.
It's a look often seen on the sartorially challenged.
For most people, it's just a "less formal" look, the tee is a downgraded button-up shirt.
In order to make this look work, the tee has to be worn as a tee, not as described above.
The "downgraded", "less formal" look bears connotations with "casualisation", a thing most SFers utterly despise.
Thus, the widespread hate of this look on SF.

I still insist that it can look very good.

Yeah, I have to agree here. I find myself wearing jeans, a tee, and a blazer fairly regularly; it's just a nice casual look.

I'll throw a sport coat over a white v-neck and jeans on weekends to run errands, but I wouldnt go "out" that way.

I think it looks best when it was thrown together as you head out the door. If you're putting thought into it or going somewhere to be seen, you've already ruined it. My .02

I take back the bouncer only comment. You can also do this look if you can design a club where the outside of the club is like the inside, and the inside is like the outside.

I've worn a John Smedley t-shirt under a sports coat, but I would not wear a t-shirt with a suit... the Smedley shirts are nice because they have the higher collars
