Summer Shorts?

I probably ought to have a pair or two of good shorts for summer wear with a belt and linen shirt. I'm not sure where to look aside from, perhaps, Brooks Brothers. Anyone got any bright ideas on a nice luxurious pair of cotton or linen shorts? Brands/stores to keep an eye out for?

J Crew. This is my first summer wearing non-douchebag shorts and they look good.

Are these obtainable for those of us without air tickets to Naples and relatively pedestrian bank accounts? Sounds intriguing but I wouldn't know where to start looking.

You can call their London shop. They are made RTW in basic colors like olive, tan and blue. Prices are less than you would pay from somebody like Incotex or Borrelli, but I don't remember exactly what they are. If you want, I'll snap a pic of mine.

Borrelli makes nice shorts.

If you want something more luxo than a mall brand, you could also pick up some of the Incos that are overrunning the B&S forum, and just have them hemmed up to the length that you like...that's an inexpensive way to get nice shorts.

If you do that, you might also have to have the pockets shortened.

A straw hat, sometimes. The detailing on these is nicer than on the Powells. I also have some Borrelli shorts. Not bad. T4chan has Ambrosi make his shorts, but then, he needs special wicking properties.

Cucinelli also makes great linen and/or cotton shorts. There, I said it.

I'm not much of a shorts guy, but I ordered a couple pairs from J.Crew. They have specific lengths, which is useful. I went with both 5" (shorty short shorts) and 7". Cheap, good selection of colors.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I wouldn't mind a photo, Matt. Vox - I had considered just what you were mentioning about the Incos.

Problem is that here in Baltimore there aren't many options besides the mall brands. I guess they're just shorts, right? I was hoping for something a little more luxurious though.

Edit: Thanks for the snap, Matt. They look neat but I'm not sure I love the adjuster thingie. Is that what makes it a ghurka short?
