Suit Tailoring Questions

Hello All. I am new to these forums, and also new to wearing suits. Many of my google searching regarding suits have led me to these forums, and I thought I'd ask some questions here regarding suit tailoring.

I purchased a 40S suit that fits me pretty well around the shoulders. However it is big around the chest. I measured in at a 38" chest. I have a V-shaped torso (big lats, small waist, and not so big pecs). I also tried a 38R which fits me well around the chest, but the shoulder isn't as good as the 40S.

I would like to ask the following questions and would appreciate any answers:
(1) Can the chest be taken in 2" on the 40S? What is the max the chest can be taken in? I understand chest alterations will probably be pretty expensive.
(2) Is there a difference between altering the upper back vs. altering the chest area? If there's a difference, which one is easier to alter?
(3) The waist on the jacket is also big. What is the max a suit jacket can be suppressed? I may need around a 6-8" suppression.
(4) Is it possible to make the 38R jacket's shoulder slightly bigger?
(5) Can the thighs be taken out on the suit trousers? My trousers are pretty tight. Letting out 1-2" would really help.
(6) How much fabric should I be able to pinch in the thigh area from the suit trousers?
(7) Would losing 10-20lbs help the 38R shoulders fit better?
(8) Does the size of dress shirts affect how the suit fit fits in the chest, shoulder, sleeves? I imagine a baggy dress shirt would make the suit sleeve look awkard?
(9) Does it really matter that the suit trouser waist matches your waist size EXACTLY, or can the trouser waist be 1-2 inches bigger? Since the suit trouser waist and the crotch is covered by the suit jacket, how can one even tell if the trousers are big around the waist?
