Looking for a nice winter jacket to go with a pair of khakis and button down. Preferably black color, and warm enough to keep me from freezing in sub 40 degree weather. Don't really have a price in mind, but trying for something in the sub >$500 range and conservative enough to wear to work.

Thanks guys

For sub 40 degree weather, your choices are going to be plentiful, just depends on how warm you want to be and what your tolerance is for the cold.

I could probably get away with nothing more than a nice leather jacket for the dress you're describing

What's the coldest temps you'll face? Sub 40 can mean a lot.

Thanks for the reply, furo. I live in NYC and the average temp is about 20-40 degrees during the winter. I prefer not to go leather, I dont think it is elegant enough to go to work with.

Not sure if it falls under your definition of "nice", but I bought the Filson Mackinaw, which I really like. It's sleek, simple, good enough for winter/layering and you can find it for a little over $200.

See the mega peacoat thread in streetwear and denim forum. Lots of good advice there.
