Obviously this design is not so uncommon between Budapest and Vienna

Here a example from Maftei.

I don't like the toe or the use of material. Shagreen is awesome for watch straps, though.

I like them a lot, which surprises me. Normally, I hate that type of toe, and I hate exotic skins. But stingray is the one exotic skin I find beautiful, and I think that style of toe goes well with the stingray. It reminds me of a zen-like pebble riverbed flowing over a short waterfall.

But I admire them from afar. I don't think I'd wear them.

I want to like stingray, but I am having a hard time figuring out where they would be useful on shoes. That was my question to you - having worked with the material, does it make sense for shoes? Is there a place where it's toughness makes it a sensible choice?

As for the shoes you posted, I don't like the toe style you used, whether with shagreen or without, so you shouldn't feel bad - there is nothing you or anyone else could do to make a pair of shoes in that style that I would like.

Actually: most probably you are right. But I use 1.4-1.6 mm thick lining tp avoid problems.

Didn't a member on SF have shoes made with water buffalo? I remember thinking it would work as a country/casual shoe.

Why yes, yes it is.

You should definitely visit Atelier du Bracelet Parisien when you are in Freedom.

Yes, it would be OK for wallets and belts perhaps.

But I don't like it for shoes.

I've actually ordered from them online. Beautiful strap (dark burgundy alligator), but they got the measurements slightly wrong. I think I'll drop by and get something new--and have the measurements double-checked.

Yeah, if you're there in person they're pretty good about checking things and doing what's necessary.

Unlike most here, you are not afraid to experiment beyond the norm when it comes to shoe's. You have posted many images of your bespoke commissions and some go beyond the tried and true (ie.boring) C&J, EG, Vass and JL, but are never tasteless. I only meant it as the highest compliment to your sartorial acumen.

Stingray is what i do call a strong exotic skin....You love it or hate it...

On a personal note ,i do prefer water buffalo ,lizzard ,iguanas ,croc and so many others...

i do respect people wanting to be personal and creative...+1 for personality..

My shoes are all very classic in shape therefore the last will not be my choice...
