It was said by a waitress last Wednesday night at the Atlanta Grill, the main restaurant in the downtown Atlanta branch of the Ritz Carlton.
It contrasted with the smarmy and phony way they answered the phone when I called for a reservaton: "Good afternoon, Ritz Carlton. This is ----- (first name), how may I direct your call?" When I asked for the restaurant, she responded "My pleasure" and put me through. I have found that no matter what you ask of an employee there, you always get: "My pleasure." It is overly formal, stilted and awkward sounding to me.
The waitress also told us (the restaurant critic of Atlanta Magazine and me) her first name. That was very questionable behavior, but her "still workin on that" was completely beyond the pale.
I still cannot believe it. This may mean the total collapse of civilization everywhere in this country.
