Hi all,
I got clean and sober 2 years ago, and quit smoking soon after. I was wondering whether anybody else was doing the sobriety thing on here, needs to be sober, wants help or information on sobriety or had some quality stories.
I definitely have more time, money and energy to waste on "style" after getting sober, and have had a cool journey as a result.

me too. trying out sobriety now....was doing quite a bit of blow too but i guess i just decided it wasnt for me anymore. Its tough...I used to go out 6 nights a week and drink with my friends. the hardest part is dealing with the boredom. hahaha. For instance, Mondays used to be a great night to go out...dance party at this great bar by my house...good drinks, and women outnumber men 2 to 1. But tonight ill be at home shining a few pairs of shoes and pressing my shirts.

just started on the sobriety track a few weeks ago. I must say the daily urges have been far harder to deal with than I would have guessed.

Wait till you make your forties. You'll be shocked by the number of people. No joke.

The adventures in sobriety thread seemed focused on DUI advice rather than actual sobriety, that is why I started this thread.

Regarding the daily urges, at this point after a couple years of sobriety I am comfortable going out, but at first it is definitely hard to be in an environment with the old vices without caving.
In my experience I just don't want to drink anymore, so it doesn't look overly appealing to me. . . .
As soon as you get comfortable with being sober you will have no problem going out, and will probably enjoy the sober vantage point. Also the next day will cease to be a burden and you can wake up without the headache.

I quit drinking 2 years ago too, followed by smoking last year. I agree that it certainly frees up finances for my clothing/excercise addictions.

I'm about to turn 22 and have seriously thought about it. I have even done it for a few months in the past, but I cannot pass a glass of good wine, when chilling with my gf for example. And from there, it gradually turns to 6 nights of drinking and going out per week

Well, I'm just taking it easier now and keep myself to some good wine every now and then. And maybe some cream liquer. And maybe... oh, wait

actually my problem is the exact opposite. I don't necessarily have a problem going out and not drinking (although it is hard to over come the reputation as a heavy drinker).

my problem is the drinking alone issue... I don't get sloshed often but I find it hard to come home and not have 3 or 4 beers... very hard. I have found I have a reliance on that and have been working very hard at that. I've had a few break downs so far but I've mitigated it to one beer tops in those occurrences.

Don't drink anymore except the occasional scotch. Still smoke though.
