Skin Bleaching

In Asia and the middle-east most people want to look white because people look down on dark-skinned people there. I saw this hysertically disturbing ad from India where a guy basically gets treated like a leper for being dark-skinned. Amongst other things, he gets slapped and a match lit on his face for being dark-skinned. I can't imagine the reaction if they started running ads like this in America.

But do they have catchy and offensive musical commercials to promote their products like this? I thought not.

I just googled that, and it turns out, some estheticians use the same skin bleaching creams for both procedures.

OT, but people who tan too much are annoying. There is a girl in one of my classes who could be quite attractive if she didn't have the complexion of a Thanksgiving turkey.

Strangely, I was talking to a man from Togo at a party, and I made some comment about all the recent Ethopian/Sudanese immigrants to Greensboro. He responded that West Africans don't mix with East Africans, and that East Africans are inferior because of their blacker skin compexion. He then went on to make some comments about East Africans that were more racist than anything I've ever heard a white person say ****************** in general.

I did not find that particularly offensive... perhaps the match was lit on his face because his skin was dry, and the product covers that as well as skin lightening (which is admittedly silly).

This is also true in China. People with darker skin are seen as peasants or dissipated or the like.

This is surprisingly common amongst most ethnic groups. They have their own mini-hierarchy based on minute differences anyone outside their ethnicity would never be able to pick up on.
