You know, painting actual prosthetic eyes is quite the artform. Each one has to be individually done to get them to match the remaining eye. An astonishing range of colours is used to get the right overall effect. You think it's difficult to get a bespoke suit right? Imagine getting the colours of a prosthetic eye absolutely right!

Is that you in your avatar showing a good inch? Yes, yes, I know ... the arms are folded.

For me the shirt's a touch too long, the jacket's a touch too short. Frank's showing a lot of sleeve but he's got his arms bent. If you're going for this look, maybe take a picture with your arms bent. I bet you'll end up showing way too much shirt cuff with arms bent.

I am of the same breed as the OP but I wouldn't go as far as saying I show 2 1/4 inch cuffs. I have my suit sleeves (not all of them) shorter than what is typically worn. With barrel cuff I'd say about 1.3 inch shows and maybe 1.7 to 1.8 inch with french cuffs. If you put fashion advice aside and just look at it for what it is I think it looks great. It matches my taste and personality which is why I do it. I belive Sinatra is wearing similar sleeve lenght in his picture even if he has bent arms. If your just showing a sliver of shirt cuff there is no way that much will show when you bend your arms. I can try to take pictures and put them up in the next week or so if people want me to. I also think that not everyone can pull it off; it really helps that I'm tall.

It didn't look as bad as I thought it would. You can show a bit more cuff if wearing french cuffs. Anyway, your shirt cuffs are a bit too long.

Yes it's me, and folded arms do make a big difference. And I have lots of problems with getting the right amount of cuff; I can't afford bespoke so most of my stuff is MTM and it takes a lot of trial and error to get the sleeves the right length to show the right amount, so often there will be too much or too little, but I am aware that it's not ideal and would prefer to have 1/4" at all times.

I do have a fair amount of bespoke and still it happens. It's not a perfect world ... especially for those who aspire to achieve perfection.

That said, I met my father in Atlanta a few weeks back. The day of my departure we were both wearing very similar A&S coats. It was hot and neither of us had our coat on for a luncheon picnic friends had arranged. As I left for the airport I picked up what I thought was my coat. About half way to the airport I slipped into the coat and realized at once that I was showing way too much shirt sleeve ... the full double cuff look. I had only two coats with me for three weeks in Italy and France ... and ultimately I wore it several times (always with double cuffs). I showed a lot of cuff ... and the length was a bit short. After the second wearing, I stopped fretting about it.

Most people don't notice what others are wearing ... and even if they do, I'm still much better dressed than 99.9% of the rest.

I've seen Colbert do this frequently. I'm not a big fan, to me it looks sloppy. I like it better on Sinatra but it is not the kind of thing I would try to emulate, personally.
