Seems OK, but kind of outside of your style. I think of that type of jacket as being for guys who are into Scandinavian minimalism or something, not rugged workwear.
Thanks for your thoughts, that's totally fair. I think I was looking at it like something that could expand or stretch my wardrobe just a bit in other directions. I don't really like the idea of being a rugged workwear guy, or any one thing in particular, though I realize it's what anchors a lot of my core wardrobe. Was hoping this jacket might work with a slightly more tailored Beams-y type of look, or things like Uniqlo U/Lemaire and De Bonne Facture, but if the jacket seems too pigeonholed into a strict minimalist aesthetic, it might not be the right thing.

Suede Harrington, varsity or A1 / Valstar might work?
Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve thought about something like the Valstar Clint as it hits a lot of the right buttons for me. I have a thrifted navy LBM A1 valstarino style jacket I forgot about, but was interested in a jacket without a ribbed bottom as well. More so saw this Mr. P jacket on sale and was wondering if I could make it work for me without being way out into another niche. Appreciate your thoughts!

I actually picked this up a while ago and returned it. The materials didn't feel very nice: the suede was stiff, squeaky, and the zipper felt quite cheap.

I've generally found Mr. P's offerings pretty meh. The very limited number of pieces I've kept were from the first or second season at 70% off. And I even sort of regret that. It reminds me a bit of the Brunello Cucinelli discussion from another thread: it's marketed as elevated basics for people who don't have as much interest and knowledge as you, d4nimal. I think their marketing material even had something along the lines of "taking the thought out of picking what to wear" (though I might be mis-remembering). Personally I think you're better off expanding into those other brands you mentioned.

Stoffa doesn’t have ribbed bottoms on their leathers.
Stoffa is a perfect example of vibe I was going for. Thanks!

Also super helpful, thank you for your thoughts. I was trying for the past day to get a feel for what they are trying to do but it is, as you said, basically elevated basics. There’s nothing wrong w/ that, per se, but if it can’t clearly help me achieve an overall aesthetic I’m trying to put together and it feels cheap in other people’s experiences then it’s just not the way to go. I’m a little surprised the line doesn’t at least feel luxurious - the older Kingsman collabs Mr. Porter did with third parties seemed so good, hoped it would carry over to their own line. The Cucinelli comparison is especially damning.

I think the Valstar would be more versatile for you and it looks better

I may be one of the few Valstar sceptics here, as someone who is shorter in the torso, I have to say that Valstar jackets are long, and if you are already short in the body, they look even longer. If you look at the models they use or you see people wearing them well online, they tend to be on the thinner and longer side. The jackets I tried looked nothing like that on me (and it wasn't about 'size'). So, whether Valstar is right for you depends a lot on your proportions. Just my two cents on this one...

Agreed. Hot take: the Valstar Clint is pretty meh.
