At the risk of taking away from the hat talk... does anyone have thoughts on the lucchesse Jonah side zip? I like the shape and low heel, plus there is a hometown connection (I was raised in San Antonio where the brand was started). But the price is pretty steep. So I’m wondering if I’d be better of with something cheaper like buttero Floyd, or if I should spend the same amount on bibergs or something else that’s probably better constructed.

I own a pair of the black cherry ones and they're my most worn boot since I've gotten them. Great quality and fit TTS. I own a pair of Buttero sidezips too (not the Floyds) and I find the Lucchesses a bit more comfortable.

freeman's chore coat. i kinda dig the pattern and could see it with some washed jeans and loafers or tyroleans.

I'm kinda meh on that one, but I think I may also have very basic taste when it comes to chore coats. Prefer the usual vintage French coats. Or things in very basic Americana type fabrics, such as moleskin or buffalo plaid.

If that's the only thing you're wearing with a pattern, I think it's fantastic. People run around with button-downs with equally loud plaids and a pair of jeans and it can look downright boring. If you have a lot of solid color or less loud base stuff, especially if it's fit more relaxed, I'm in favor.

All that said, it could totally backfire. Take as much risk as your wallet can handle I guess? The worst that happens is you don't like your outfit a few times and you resell it, right?

appreciate the opinions fellas but the universe has plans and looks like the chore coat picked me. i had the checkout window open and while i was debating my daughter (who sometimes "shops" with me at the computer) saw the check out screen and figured she'd "help me" by placing the order all by herself. didn't find out about it until later last night when i saw the confirmation email. may try to call freeman's today to see if they can cancel it but otherwise looks like i'm giving it a shot!

I bought a car on eBay once that way.
