Friends,

New to the forum, long time lurker.

Getting a tux made for my wedding as I alluded to in a previous post.

I'm very keen on the following combination:
- Midnight blue 290gm wool/mohair mix
- Black crossgrain satin facings
- Shawl lapel
- Single breasted 3 button waistcoat (low U-shaped) with no lapel, in the same midnight blue wool/mohair

Now...I know it's considered best to wear a cummerbund with a Shawl lapel...

but I can't bring myself to wear a cummerbund. Not sure why, think it was a wedding rental when I was 12 years old.

anyway - does anyone have photos or thoughts on what a low, U-shaped waistcoat would look like with a shawl lapel?

thanks friends

There are drawings of this and I have also seen it in old movies. There's nothing wrong with it.

If you're going to wear a tux for the wedding, then I'm not sure that tradition is a big worry. Personally I think that a shawl lapel is very "clean" looking, only two or three lines in the coat; a cummerbund or waistcoat will detract from that look.

Its not often that I condone the shirking of tradition, but in this case I believe the result will be a cleaner, more neat look.

I know it's a bit of a tall order, but I want another tux shirt, I really hate full cut shirts, I love french cuff, and I need lay down collar for my choir. Price isn't a huge deal, but within reason is always a plus. Whether it be an online store or someplace I can order from on the phone or go in person (I live somewhat near Sat Lake).
