I can't get behind...
  • 2" cuffs on the pants.
  • Overly slim anorexic fitting pants.
  • Jumbo wide lapels on the jackets.
  • Narrow-collared shirts.
Honourable mention (SF-approved wearing habits):
-Wearing shoes without socks (excluding sandals ofcourse).
-Wearing leather-soled shoes/boots in rain or snow.

Oh ... I can. I've been wearing them this way for decades.

Thank you. I approve of this thought.

Look at any "What should I wear to <xyz>" thread. The standard answer is, and always is, "charcoal or navy solid suit, white dress shirt, no cuff links, no other accessories, completely muted watch, and a regimental or small dot tie." Boring. Believe it or not, 98% of employers won't care if you wear a white shirt that has a subtle stripe, cuff links, etc. if you know how to do your damn job.

You should start a new thread entitled, "What should I wear to interview someone?"

If a potential employer is interviewing you, chances are they already think you know how to do your job somewhat. Unless you're applying to an old-school firm or working in an industry in which conservative dress truly matters, my statement stands. My employers have all commented on my appearance positively, and I've dressed in non-SF approved attire in all of them. I haven't been excessively loud in any of them, I just haven't been boring either.
