Today: Caron Yatagan - Should wear this one more often, except the little one just asked me what I was wearing, in that sort of way that makes me think he wants his own bottle. Ruh-Roh.

Unseasonably warm and sunny. Givenchy III, a floral chypre extraordinaire, gets it today and it's JUST right.

Testing two new scents:
Goutal Ambre Fetiche - ...short version - meh and whatever. Generic Amber drydown
Elixir Patchouli - ...ugh. Don't really go for patch in any of its forms.

Today: Etro Shaal Nur. Think "John Varvatos + incense". Really damn good.

I've been wearing mostly Le Male lately, but I'd like to get into another scent. I'm not really into musky scents. Anyone want to make a recommendation?

^Le Male has a good tobacco, vanilla vibe, so it appears you like sweet scents. I won't recommend something SIMILAR to the Gaultier, since you might want to branch out a bit, but something that you still might find nice.

Fresh Cannabis Santal or Cannabis Rose. If you can't locate a store that carries it, give Mugler AMen a try. Both are kinda interesting and sweet.

Today I'm wearing Azzaro Pour Homme, a 70's throwback scent based on lavender, anise, and bergamot. It's far better than it's price indicates, slightly sweet/sharp/earthy. Generally Ross and Marshalls carry this line but you'll have to look carefully for this particular one - the other Azzaro offerings don't measure up to the original.

(changeofpace - try this if you can find it)

Guerlain Homme today (the new one just released). I think I've posted my ambivalence with it before, though it IS much better in warmer/more humid weather. Nevertheless, still not what I'd expect from the GUERLAIN badge.

This one is sort of like the Cadillac Cimarron of Guerlain fragrances.

^You are welcome.

Thanks to T, I'm enjoying Chamade Pour Homme today. I call this one of the "flat" Guerlains, along with Coriolan. "Flat" doesn't necessarily mean bad, it just is sort of tepid, close to the skin, and muted in an wet, earthy way. This one is a little happier than Coriolan, but still it doesn't have that vibrancy and depth of something like Shalimar, Jicky, or the pep of Mouchoir, or the crispness of Mitsouko.

It's got the Guerlinade accord that let's you know what you're wearing, and that keeps it interesting enough that for $40 or so I'd be happy to buy a bottle... sadly you'd be hard pressed to find one for less than $200, so I'll probably pass and not do more with this when the sample runs out.

EDIT: Just read an online review and the reviewer called Chamade PH "Coriolan with florals on top." Hmmm... interesting...

Today: wearing Yves Rocher Voile D'Ambre, a rather femme amber scent with a shiny lipstick note balancing a rather high-pitched amber. I think I keep this one around only because I didn't pay much for it.

Testing: Guerlain Heritage. I don't get this one at all. It's woody and weird - not sure if they're trying to rip of YSL M7 with the rotting agarwood note, or if they went for papaya and missed badly. Doesn't feel very Guerlain to me.

Later today: a bottle of Guerlain Habit Rouge Eau Legere should turn up at my office today...will give that one a shot once it arrives.
