edit:

just bought something from SSENSE. when i made the purchase, the invoice mentioned tax, but there was no reference for customs or duties (so did not mention i would need to pay them but did not mention i would NOT need to pay them either).

just saw my item at the postal office and got slapped with a HUGE custom fee - and i wasn't aware that this was coming. Do they usually let you know if you should expect a custom fee / duty? i don't know why i always have issues with SSENSE. they always say "free shipping and returns in the US"; that naturally implies to me that the item is being shipped from a US location and thus why would i assume customs or fees?

so annoying. how do you return items to SSENSE if you don't want to pay the customs fee?

If it’s over $800 you’re going to pay customs

i see. i can see that in the customs information. but shouldn't they mention it on the invoice? "potential custom fee / duty to be paid upon receipt"?
with the bogus customs it's way more expensive to buy from ssense than any other legit retailer - really pointless

I'm sorry to hear that. Yes, ssense does always entail customs fees for anything over $800. This makes that shop great for items under the customs threshold, or if it's sales season and the customs fees will still give you a deal.

Did you get a leather jacket or something?

It's hard to blame SSense here, for duty collected pursuant to US law. Duties imposed on the importation of an item above a certain threshold is (or should be) common knowledge.

well, it isn't common knowledge. i don't usually buy expensive things without having good recourse to returning the item.

also - as i was trying to explain, if it says free shipping and free returns, i didn't even know SSENSE was shipping from Canada; again, not saying that it is right or wrong, i'm saying they should make it more clear.

US guys are so lucky
over here anything over £15 gets customs charges.
makes it very expensive to import
I don't mean to stir a hornet's nest here, but I get the feeling things are about to get a lot worse for you guys on this score. You're definitely right that we're lucky here.

Just fyi, the $800 limit for customs doesn't apply to sunglasses. So don't buy sunglasses from overseas stores if you're in the usa.

I dont think it will affect importing from outside the EU, Brexit will just mean it will become expensive to import from Europe as the same will apply there from next year.

That's a good point, and I sorta had the thought that I could see the Tories reducing import duties from the USA in the near future, which would obviously benefit people like us who shop on the net. I won't pretend to really understand tariffs theory.

Always look at the websites policy on duties/customs. I think if you don't accept the package they'll send back to sender so I'd double check with them that it'd be refunded if you go that route.

I’m actually becoming a Vac convert, although most of the items I turn towards are still from Hedi’s influence. I was reluctant at first because of the major cut differences but lately the cuts on the denim and shirts have been killer with a return to a more slim/skinny cut. My most recent denim purchase fits me like a glove and I’m right back into the SLP vibe. Tried a few Celine items and the material/sizing is different. Gives me a bit of a stuffy feeling.

Anyways, with spring and summer around the corner I’m curious on peoples thoughts about these shorts. They seem a bit shorter then what I’m used to but I’ve started to gravitate towards a shorter hem length. I just think a shorter length looks better on me but these may be a bit too short. Is there any measurement/body shapes that go along with best fitting shorts? Here they are:
