Go to www.crossfit.com. Do that and it will square you away. It's circuit training, which offers the best of both worlds: lifting and cardio. Also, depending on your level of conditioning, I would visit the Crossfit Brand X forums; they offer WOD scaling in their forum section.

others have already mentioned rowing as a viable alternative, and I'd like to second that. Rowing and erging (rowing on the ergometer, or rowing machine) is great for cardio and developing lean muscle.

I understand that the former is harder to do on a regular basis if you're not a collegiate rower or a member of a boathouse but the latter is relatively ubiquitous as most gyms have at least a pair of ergometers near the other cardio equipment.

If you do choose to give the ergometer a go, I'd suggest aiming to row for 30-minute pieces at an average split time of 2:00/500m to build a solid steady state.

I prefer running, because it is easy to do at the drop of a hat. I am running a marathon this weekend actually, and am excited because its a good excuse to travel to San Diego. My running is goal oriented, because finishing a marathon, half marathon, ultra marathon or 10k is a tangible goal, which I prefer to trying to attain a better build just because it is easier for me. The runners high I get helped me quit smoking about a year ago, and has helped me to stay away from my other vices. I love running, and would recommend it, but I also like to do an easy weight workout a couple times a weak to stay toned. The good news is that both weightlifting and running will make you feel, look and think better=)

I hate the term bodybuilding. It conjures images of guys doing one exercise per muscle for hours a day, only to have zero real-world strength and legs the size of my pinky finger. Unless you're just looking to put a lot of mass on, which then I would suggest Olympic-style lifting, do something like Cross Fit.

interval training.

just do it p90x, crossfit, body weight work out.
honestly it is the best balance.
-cardio as you are resistance training.

if you are out of shape and use to be in decent shape, this is how to get back in 3 months.
i yo-yo in and out of working out so have done the interval training and p90x thing many times.

a good diet is probably the most beneficial though, but the hardest to keep up.
eat a doughnut? gotta run for an hour to burn it.

combination of running, weight training, and most importantly practicing heathy eating habits (like kunk mention in another thread I love me some greasy cheese burgers, but never eat them).

What does it mean to lose water weight? How do you do it? I especially need a same afterlook as cez with his face to "dry it out".
