So what's everyone opinion of the ascot? I actually rather like them, and today I finally saw my very first one that wasn't part of a period film on an older gentleman. Very dapper I think, but also very unusual. What are your usual thoughts when you see someone rocking the ascot?

I've seen myself rocking one. I look pretty good.

The key for me is making the rest of the look unstodgy. I wouldn't wear a navy blazer and white shirt with an ascot for fear of looking like an old man, but I have worn one with a vneck sweater and camel jacket.

I think "rock on".

The topic comes up often here and on AAAC. I don't wear them myself, but that's only because I haven't found one to purchase yet. Instead I use a small and light scarf, which I always state is the middle ground.

I just tried to search google for pictures of people wearing an ascot and came up totally dry. Are they really so unpopular?

For people my age (24), I prefer it loosely tied and barely showing. I admire anyone my age with the kumquats to wear an ascot but I know if I did, it would become a topic of conversation, which perhaps isn't what I'd want. I'd love to be able to, though.

To really rock it properly, you have to say "Lovey" a lot. "Ducky" works too, but not quite so well.

I don't wear them, and can't imagine wearing them. They're just too self-conscious/costumey on guys under, say, 45-50. It's like seeing a young guy in a Golden Fleece polo and matching Brooks khakis.

If you're going to rock one as a young guy, might as well go for the cigarette holder and monocle, too.

I happen to be wearing one at this very moment, but, as forum regulars well know, I am pretty long in the tooth. Did wear them a fair bit as a younger man, though.

Just to be clear, I'm not really anti-ascot anymore. I just saw an opportunity for a cheap shot, and I took it.

I still own none and have no plans to get one, though.

I would love to dress like this, circumstances prevent it though. I do have a wedding to attend this fall, maybe I should begin preparations...

I have actually seen men who wear a monocle. A cigarette holder is something that is used, albeit rarely these days, although it does seem a practical accessory.
