Resume Help(Kinda Stupid Question)

Okay so im making my resume, and i dont know if i should add that i currently won gold at an amateur boxing tournament. (under the activities and leisure section) I do jewellery and Gemmology so im thinking it will A) make them think i am dedicated and hardworking, and it may help them remember me more considering not many jewellers/gemmologists do boxing or B) theyll think im some douche who tries to beat everyone up etc.
I know it seems stupid but i just want to know what some of you who look at resumes would think about it, or would you put it in yours?

I've never hired someone or had to review resumes, but I'd put it if I were you. If you're proud of it then do it. Plus, it does show a facet of your character that you work hard and can set and attain goals. If you wanted to just beat everybody up, you'd be in prison for bar fights and ****, not boxing in a ring with rules.

Then again.... Dwight Schrute put his martial arts skills on his resume....

Edit: Actually--- more on the character thing. It shows that you can be aggressive without over-stepping boundaries. If you can get in a fistfight (boxing) while still having the self-control to adhere to the rules and not get penalized or thrown out, that also shows strongly on your part.

put it in, under "hobbies". you want people to remember who you are, they might have dozens of resumes in front of them

Yeah, put it as the very last thing on your resume in a "Hobbies" or "Personal Interests" category. But make it the very last thing. I have a pursuit that most everyone finds very interesting and have it as the very last line of my resume under "Personal Interests". During my career, that last line has often been the first thing someone would comment on.

Definitely include it. I agree with GT that this is the kind of detail that make you remember a candidate when you're interviewing many of them

Resumes usually have "Additional Information" section at the bottom where you can include details such as this. Winning an amateur boxing competition sounds like it requires a lot of discipline, not to mention drive and aggressiveness, which a lot of employers like.

I review resumes all the time and am involved in hiring decisions, and I would unequivocally say that you should include that in your resume. I know if I saw that on someone's resume, that person would stick out from the pack.

Really? I have never once put down hobbies or interests on my cv. I just can't imagine it tipping the scales. Maybe I'm wrong. Besides, wtf am I going to write: collecting cuff-links, fox trotting, and watching Jeeves and Wooster?

As a general rule, one's resume ought to contain an "Interests" and "Awards" sections on the bottom. That way, the interviewer and you have something other than work to talk about. So, yes, include it.

Well, sometimes I interview 5 people in one day who all have similar resumes. Something like being a golden gloves champ might make someone stick in my mind. Of course, it's not going to overcome any other kinds of deficiencies in the person's resume.

I'm guessing you're outside the U.S., so you might want to ask people in your industry and location, but having reviewed thousands of resumes and interviewed hundreds of candidates stateside, I'd guess that the reference probably wouldn't hurt and may help. But unless it's a major amateur tournament that would be recognized by a layman (i.e. The Golden Gloves here in the U.S.), I would suggest leaving it at 'competitive amateur boxer' -- anything more might come off as trying too hard to impress in the wrong way, and you might risk coming off as unprofessional or at least professionally naive. You should stand out primarily from your work accomplishments and/or academic achievements. Just my 2p.

As mentioned above, in all the interviews I have gone to, I have been asked right out of the gate about my interests/hobbies (athletics). Hmm, out of the gate applies to my interest....I digress.

From recruiters I have talked with, athletics is usually looked highly upon. Many top tier athletes also do well in other facets of life due to the many transferable skills (I know you can cite some dumb as rocks pro athletes, but I think this may apply even more in amateur sports)

I guess I should have done this then. I was interviewed once by St. Bonaventure U (or college, can't remember). The guys were all over-grown boys and talked about going to Buffalo for the Bills or Sabers. And one of the said "Or I guess you could go to the ballet," which was met with outright guffawing.

I just sat there thinking about how much I would hate working with these guys.
