Removing red ballpoint pen from a shoe

I just got a great deal on a pair of cognac-colored cap toes. Unfortunately, one of said cap toes has a couple small red ball point pen marks on it. Any suggestions for de-marking the shoe?

Maybe it wasn't such a great deal after all. Aside from the usual leather cleaner, polish, wax, whatever, I wouldn't hold my breath. Pen and leather do not go together well at all.

Thanks. I'll try the alchohol approach. If it doesn't work, I'll just darken the shoes until the lines are barely visible.

For the record, isopropyl alchohol is the ticket. It removed the red. Stripped the color out of the leather, but nothing a little brown shoe cream didn't fix.

Rubbing alcohol does the trick with removing ballpoint ink from leather and most fabrics, and the best part is you don't even have to rub--just blot gently
