I don't understand all these guys saying they wear the same size in clarks desert boots.
I wear an 8.5 in desert boots. Got an 8.5 pair of GTs. They are huge on me. There's almost an inch between the tips of my toes and the front of the toe box. And I keep reading they are narrower? Uh no.
I'm kind of ticked. I spend 3 hours going through this thread and it backfires.

Get them from Zappos or Revolve, send back if they don't fit.
Stop being an idiot and figure it out.

If only there was a way to go and try them out in person...

Chances are slim that they carry GTs in the stores.

I've never seen any of the heritage collection in a Red Wing retailer. I'm sure some carry them, but definitely not all. The GTs fit differently than anything you could find at a normal retailer.

I know this is anecdotal, but every RW store I've been to has carried at least the black GT. They may not have the entire color selection, or even all of the other models, the GT seems to be a staple and I've seen more than one RW salesman wearing them. Now, my anecdotal experience not-withstanding, I seem to recall an invention from a hundred years ago that allows one to "call" the establishment in question and inquire about the availability of said items, and in what sizing, and if not available, they're usually able to use their stock-finder to locate a suitable location.

*Not meant as an insult. I used to feel helpless in this regard as well, until I googled it, picked up the phone and called, and then went and tried them on in person, just as I described. Now, if they don't have the model/size, well, at least you made the effort.

And every RW store I've been has not had anything from the Heritage line.

Places like endless and zappos have free return shipping so if they don't fit return them and get a different size.

The color on the website is lighter and isn't really that accurate. This photo here seems to be better representation.



Now, I have the round-toe beckman and it is on a different last (no. 8) where as this uses the last in 875 moc-toe model (no. 23) so there is going to be a difference. I knew these were on finale sale (more on that in a moment) and my red wing guy told me so size up 1/2 size from my plain-toe beckmans. He was right on. My toe hit the stitching perfect and the boot fit well whether I was wearing ragg-wool socks or normal white socks. My main gripe still with the beckman boot is that the tongue is attached too high near the top eyelet; it is a pain to get these on -- I may have to get the tongue altered. So, these were supposed to be finale sale ($230 right now but I ordered them on the last day of the extra 30% off for $169) but my receipt does not indicate these boots as a finale sale item. If anyone was worried about not being able to return them, it looks like these can be.

I was planing to sell these as soon as I got them because it seemed like I made a mistake. A lot of people have been returning these boots because of the big-toe, but to me, I see no immediate difference in toe-height between the round-toe and this. Sure, it isn't the slimmest boot (it is the beckman after all) but these looked great to me with my herringbone trousers. I was debating of getting of the epaulet x thorogood 685s in "crazy horse" leather since it was a slimmer looking boot, but I don't see a reason now. I will probably get them still but I won't be selling the moc-toe beckman boots to get them.

Speaking of thorogood, I returned their pair to moc-toe boots to Eddie Bauer (hurrah for great return policies) which almost paid for my beckmans by themselves. The moc-toe thoogoods have a popular following as well. In the end, if you think the plain-toe beckman looks slim enough, I'd think someone would be happy with these too. These will be my new winter boots.

You want them to fit your foot with a light sock. After breaking in, they'll stretch to allow heavier socks.

Ideally, you should have a small amount of heel slip when you walk. The boots should be snug on your foot from under your arch around the top the laces with room left for adjustment, and then all toes should be short of the end of the boot, even when walking or standing on a downward slope.

Small boots can be stretched a little, but not very much. If you get the too large, you can use an insole to take up some of the room, but always try for a good fit first.

Good advice, though some lasts are tricky. The 8 last is not very accommodating to wide feet, so I have to go TTS and use a smallish insole.

don't worry about it. i too have the same problem but it seems like its not a problem at all. And like what dgbx said, its hard leather, not wood at the sole.

How old are those?

In case you still want to know, I received them as a gift from my dad Christmas 2010. In that picture they had been polished and waxed. I just cleaned off all of the wax and replaced it with Obenauf's LP in the hopes that my foot can breathe better and they'll fit better. They look great with a polish, but I wanted to see how they'd look oiled.

After nearly two years & one resole I had a lace snap, caught up on a bike crank. Anyone know where the hell I can find a replacement pair of the flat laces that come with these? Always stayed tied tight, clean, and looked great. I've checked a few footwear & even only-shoelaces megasites, no luck. Need to be about 48" long (7 eyelets).

Has anyone else seen this on their Beckman's? This is the second pair I have received and with both pairs it has only been on the right side of the right shoe.
