I have. It looks way darker in person. Almost black.

They look alright. The color doesn't look bad. It's just that it's darker than expected. If you want a dark colored boot them go for it.

Love the Muleskinner leather and round toe. Great price too. Wish we had options for making purchases like this where I live.

Yea. They look amazing. Website says that I should apply mink oil, but I think I'll pass on that because I can see that the color changes about 2 shades darker. Not the same boots in the pic, but same leather...

They're highly variable. I've yet to see anything like that (or any Red Wings whatsoever) at the Nordstrom Rack store here.

I stopped by the nearby Rack (in Sandy, UT) this weekend and they had a few pairs of Blacksmiths in each of size 9.5 and 10. Styles 2956, 2962, and 4528. Finally something other than jeans that's worth buying.

Didn't check the other sizes.

I was wondering why they were darker and thought that's just how they age. I'm not particularly familiar with rough out (suede) leather care.

Were they treated with mink oil? guy says he has had them for three years so I'm assuming he treated them with something.

I'm not to familiar with the leather either, but I think those were treated with something because the pic at the bottom is a pic from a review of the same pair after 5 years of wear (50 wears a year) and they don't seem as dark. I mean the darker color doesn't look bad at all. I just prefer the original color.

I like how the writer goes into specifics for the different types of leathers. Here's some of the quotes for roughout leathers:
"The second group of leathers is the reverse suede leathers, also known as ”roughouts,” which includes Abilene, Mohave and Muleskinner."

"For Muleskinner leather apply Mink Oil. Abilene and Mohave leathers require no conditioner."

So it looks like Mink Oil is "recommended" for Muleskinner leather, however I agree with others that I like the look of the roughout before being treated.

Your photos make me think the darkening is just age because its uneven and lighter on the sides.

I really like roughout leathers. I would like to get a pair of 3149 Olive Mohave chukkas but they aren't available here. I don't trust ordering from overseas either. Its so bizarre to me that Red Wing makes boots here in the USA that you can't purchase here. I'm considering a pair of Muleskinner Weekenders just because they are easy to find in the US.

Where are you ordering from, directly from Red Wing?

Also, curious to get your thoughts on the comfort level of these. These new sleeker designs look nice but the sole is so thin, doesn't look like there's much room for cushioning under the footbed.
