Blackberries don't overlap seasons with the black raspberries in my area. Blackcaps are first, then the wineberries, then blackberries. There are mulberries now, too, but they are so sickeningly sweet I never know what to do with them.

bottom pic is a pot of cherries? what are you making? is that a split vanilla bean in there?

Yeah. Cherries. Cooked in butter/sugar, with a vanilla bean and some red wine. Cooked until syrupy. Just ate them like that after dinner with a spoon of creme fraiche and basil. Delicious.
