Depends how messy you're willing to let it get. The way my friend used to do it - and probably the cheapest way:

1. Mark pattern of where you want spikes.
2. Cut holes where they're supposed to go (using a knife, leather punch, whatever)
3. Push or screw base through the hole.
4. Attach spike part to the base.
5. ???
6. Profit.

i have some metal friends who do this and i think they use like gorilla glue or something like that

For the record, Gangsta Grillz has the most irritating DJ tags.
