First wear of these Islays. I really like them! Leather does not require any breaking in.
Thanks to Alex V at 92 Jermyn Store for sorting this one out for me. UK13 is not part of the regular size run and is not even on the website.

And my dream boots arrived.
Dark Brown Scotch Grain Islays in UK13 from Ms Alex V at 92 Jermyn Street. She did her magic despite the payment bottleneck and I am very grateful that she did.
(Sorry, too many pics)

So I went to bicester village on the weekend. It made me appreciate what good value CJ are. I went to church's outlet (obviously😂) They retail for close to a grand and the quality was no better than CJ and the outlet prices were CJ retail prices. I'll stick with CJ thank you very much.Who would pay a grand for church's when that's EG territory or entry level GG? And the woman's shoes, shockingly bad. Very cheaply constructed and very cheap leather for close to a grand. that's a good business to be in. the margins must be epic.

By contrast, I was looking at maccorielo shoes online and they seemed pretty good. 500 euros for a hand welted loafer. Sounds too good to be true. if they had a retail store in London that I could get an idea for sizing I would give them a go. Can't be bothered to go to Italy

My friend comes from a really wealthy family and has a hundred or so pairs of dress shoes. He’s always arguing with me that his Church’s are better than my shoes because of the price he paid for them.

So I think they’re priced that way so people that know little about shoes but have a lot of money buy them.
