Pre-Antiqued Shoes = Pre-Distressed Denim?

Do you think the principles are basically the same? While I feel that antiquing on high-end dress shoes is beautiful and quite elegant, isn't it similar to buying pre-faded denim? Do you feel that wear/patina on an item should be genuine, and created by your actions, rather than in a factory or workshop?

Do you mean brand new shoes that were bought with creases and irregular patina to make it look like they've been used for years without shoe trees?

Well not those - they are in a league of their own. Those are the equivellent of True Religion.

I was referring more-so to the antiquing that Lattanzi uses, that is somewhat natural like Earnest Sewn, yet was applied at the workshop to make the shoes look a bit aged.

Don't know.. I don't find antiquing on jeans necessarily pretty - but a lot of antiquing on shoes looks like breathtakingly fine wood. Plus the leather is not necessarily distressed to get that effect whereas with denim the fabric itself is structurally compromised to get the wear paterns...

P.s. correct me if I am wrong there.

I don't know, but I find it kind of childish when people say "oh my god man, i can't believe you bought jeans that were pre-distressed, it's only cool if they distress from you wearing the same pair every day." would i buy shoes with buckshot in them? no. would i buy shoes that are pre-antiqued to give them a very aesthetically pleasing patina? sure.

True, it is quite petty to worry about 'pre-distressed' items. I also recognize the craftsmanship that goes into the antiquing process on a fine shoe. I own a few pairs that came with a patina from the factory. However, my favorite pairs of shoes (as well as my favorite jeans) came from the maker clean and pure, and I added touches of wear myself, through daily activities.

To me, it is something to be proud of, to have an article of clothing that shows loving signs of wear, and was crafted to such a high degree that it gets better with age and will last for quite some time. It is a sign of straight-up honest craftsmanship and quality - quite a rarity in these days of mass-market goods. A tradition, so to speak.

what i did not like about the saying " would you walk off a cliff if they did?" is that it presupposes that i cannot make sound, case by case decisions or judgments myself (may not be the case) but i find that a little patronizing and it also sounds a little narrowminded and absolute thinking.

nothing is black and white. i hope everyone knows what i am trying to say with this, but sure, there are some articles of clothing i think looks better with a little wear and age. and maybe so for furniture and certain other things.
but that doesnt mean my taste rules apply to everything and should apply to everything within the circle of clothing. i take case by case , i think shoes right off the bat antiqued from the factory lends to more fantastic beauty more so than a non antiqued shoe. i think some furnitures the same, i like the factory antique look. does that make me one hypocritical in some way? no.
never claimed anything. cant explain it. some things are this way and some are another way.
