Good cheese, cured meats, hard bread and crackers can never go wrong (DROOL) though it could become incredibly expensive if you expect to have everyone who shows up be able to eat more then a bite or two

cost isn't so much the issue as making sure everyone is happy and feed.

To be safe I would probably stay with more traditional canapes and or the meat / cheese / bread idea.

Alternatively maybe tapas with small forks so people dont use their hands?

This annual Breast Cancer fundraiser I go to every year is run by a prominent caterer here in Chicago. It's a pretty hip and upscale gig but a couple of years ago the servers started walking around with platters of donated McDonalds cheeseburgers at around 11PM...talk about a hit! I hate the things but everyone else was talking about how cool it was.

This place usually has a killer spread and one time they did a wrap bar type of thing that I thought was pretty awesome... pre-made lettuce and mini tortilla wraps filled with all kinds of stuff.

I always try to have something sweet, something savory and something low-fat. That tends to please everyone in attendance. Veggie tray, candy or cookies, cheese and bread, chips and salsa, mini bite sized things that are easy to make in the oven/microwave.
