I recently thrifted a vintage Navy gold-buttoned YSL DB Blazer. It's about a 40 or 42 and I wear a 38. I contemplated the idea of wearing it on top of a sport coat or layered with shirt and sweater. It seems like it could work. Does anyone have any experience with this?

*Will post pics soon

It won't work. Overcoats look like a coat because of the thickness and relative rigidness of the woolen fabric. If this is a suit coat it most likely is worsted and the shoulders will just crumple over another set of suit shoulders. Also you'll have issues with the amount of space you have in the sleeve and how high the armholes are.
And most of all if it is a suit coat, it will not have enough length to encompass another suit coat length. You'll see the hem peaking out from underneath when you walk, bend, raise your arm or just standing still and it's sloppy looking.
You'll just look like some guy with two suit jackets on.

I was inspired by this. You are correct though, my jacket is very ill fitting worn in this manner.

I have no experience with this, but it doesn't sound like it would work.

Post a pic, but it sounds dubious to me. Then again if you walk around New York with a cigarette and a cell phone it might get you on the Sartorialist.
