go see the desk and you will be convinced that it is not worth what they are asking for. saw it this past weekend while doing some furniture shopping of my own.

now that desk made from reclaimed telephone poles is pretty freakin' awesome. but the holes could get potentially annoying.

I like it.

Most people on here like $500 plastic chairs because they are made by famous designers, so I'm not sure why they would say this solid wood desk is overpriced.

I did see it in person and thats what made me like it, out of curiosity what did you see that made you think its not worth what they are asking? I actually agree, only because I think $1300 for any desk is quite a lot, but from surfing many other sites, most solid wood desks with a bit of style approach the $900-$1000 range. Quality-wise I think the Hendrix was one of the nicer pieces in the whole store, pretty much every other desk is just glued together.

I also looked at the Phoenix table but no drawers is kind of a deal breaker for me.

Yeah I don't get that either.

But still this kind of stuff is just to trendy for me. I like to buy things once and this is a style I would get tired of.

I don't like it at all, and I second impolyt's suggestion to look for a danish or MCM desk in mint condition if you want an all-wood desk.

Definitely think you could do better for that price point, especially as I can't stand the legs. Thery're so plain. If you like that design, commission it from a cabinet maker and then get it with a better base.

Another idea for you is a resolute desk. It might be too much desk for what you want (it's pretty big), but some of the replica's are kinda cool:

Lots of people make versions of it for much less, but if you've gotta spend the coin . . .

I would go vintage at that price point. You can find great one-of-a-kind desks in most any run-of-the-mill antique store. Also I would consider where in the room I wanted to put the desk.

The one you linked looks designed to "float" to me. It would be somewhat wrong to buy that thing and shove up against a wall, I think. There are a lot of different desk styles and one reason for their various fundamental differences has to do with where they are going and in what kind of room.

I am partial to vintage library desks -- no drawers, shelfs on the ends -- but mainly I need desks to float in the middle of rooms full of books.

The resolute desk looks like a throne to me. Like it is something to perch behind as you summon people in to fire them or boss them around. That could be a good thing too.

The desk pictured looks OK, but I wonder how the leg trusses are braced to resist side-to-side wobble.
Pricing seems typical for a catalog furniture store, and probably a little high for the quality.

You could have a decent woodworker make a better desk than that for not much more money.
