I just blew JRM's mind.
Well im for one happy that we get to see a movie that symbolizes struggle of women, men and midgets of color against white AmeriKKKaI know the Empire was always supposed to be some space version of the Nazis, but "Death Troopers" in a black uniform... wow.

I think they look great even if I am not a fan of the name "Death Trooper" either. The name is a play off Deathstar since they appear to be designated soldiers to defend the building of the station.
Lot of good that did them, given they can't even put shields around their exhaust ports, leading straight down to their reactor.
I thought they did put shields around the exhaust port, which was why it couldn't be an energy weapon and had to be a physical torpedo that could pass through?

more like they put plot armor around Luke Skywalker
The Death Star having one weakness that the Empire had not discovered or fixed yet works better plot wise then having the good guys manage to blow it up with sheer force. It presents the Death Star as a nearly unstoppable threat and allows for Luke to be the hero by taping into the Force.
yea it works in this kind of good underdogs vs evil empire narrative but still to me it's slightly lazy writing/impefect design eventhough I love OT, same for shield generators being placed inside unshielded domes on stardestroyer's bridge etc
God damn dwarf using his low center of gravity to beat me to a Tolkien reference, although my comment was going to be about even Mordor having a forgotten back door.
Well the Death Star HAD to have a weakness for the plot to work and for the flow of the story at the ending. What type of weakness would you have used that the writers could have capitalized on with Luke and him using the force to save the day?
I was always fine with their being one lonely port that got overlooked and was not fully protected like the rest of the battle station was.
