I enjoy homemade Egyptian falafel, which is made with fava beans rather than chickpeas. It's best when the fava beans are fresh.

I love falafels. I haven't had the chance to try too many falafel places in NYC, but Mamoun's in the village makes a good falafel sandwich for $2.75.

Never had it with fava beans, definitely sounds very good. I have a feeling that a falafel is one of those dishes that probably taste infinitely better in the middle east when compared to the stuff available in the US.

Best I ever had was in Israel.

The place I went to was the equivalent to a hotdog stand. You basically paid for the pita bread and they had a huge assortment of fillings including falafel, veggies and sauces.

I dont know where the "best" falafel is in London, but Maoz in Soho does well by me.

That said, I dont know that I have ever met a falafel I didnt like

I'm a Mamoun fan too. Falafel or shish taouk, both are awesome and super cheap

Amsterdam Falafel in DC. Went for the first time a few weeks back, and now I can't get it out of my head.

I grew up near one of the best falafel stands in israel. family owned, in busniess maybe 50 years. egyptian style - so it was made out of fava beans. the turnover was such that it was always very fresh. boy, I could go for one of those now.
