if you go to www.nordstrom.com they are having a sale for the next few days approx 33% off, search allen edmonds

Park Avenues are not a very exciting shoe at all. I can think of ten pairs of black shoes that are better looking.

You want to try to avoid wearing the same pair of shoes two days in a row so the addition of another pair or two is a great idea. Don't forget shoe trees and a shoe horn or two!

ShoeBuy.com has some good shoes by Donald J Pliner (Jedrek and Rex), Hugo Boss and Johnston & Murphy, plus others. You can get 10% off by registering, plus another 20% off using code EMLSUMBLOWOUT08 until August 11th. Free shipping both ways.

Note: Size a 1/2 size down on the Pliner's.

They don't look very much different than the PA's. Good price tho, half off.

word. now that I have a pair of conservative shoes I can wear with all my suits to any business event I am searching for a pair of that is a bit more stylish. I am looking at dark brown pairs, do you guys think another pair of captoes would be overkill? Here is a pair that is on sale from the Brooks brothers website, they seem like they are selling at a good price. http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatP...lor=Dark-brown

I don't disagree with you, but please, post them. I assume we're only counting black cap toe bals, because it would be sort of pointless to say you know 10 styles of wingtip that look better... I'm always interested to hear of useful alternatives to the PA.

You can definitely do something a little riskier with that brown pair. For me, my black shoe - brown shoe rotation is currently PAs and the AE mora in brown calf, which is a cap toe double monk. I don't know if another cap toe like that peal is your best bet, though, as it's very similar to what you have, although it would certainly work. Maybe consider a semibrogue, or a sleek plaintoe if you can find one. I'd suggest a wholecut but that will be difficult to do effectively without stepping up into the Lobb range. EDIT: Very odd that the link you posted lists those shoes as "Peal & Co Captoe Blucher" when they clearly are not bluchers. Excellent price though.

I've said this before: although brown is good for the second shoe, I find burgundy (oxblood or "cordovan" [the color]) more versatile. To my way of thinking, it goes with more things than does brown or black. There are a few tweeds with which it doesn't work as well as brown, but it does far better than brown with many greys and navies. On a two-pair-of-shoe trip, I take at least one pair in burgundy. I guess I'm an outlier here.
