Needs advice about Tie purchase

Hey Styleforum,

I need some advice with regards to ties.

Despite only being 21, watching The Italian Job (Caine version) and The American with Clooney, has inspired me to up my wardrobe, and wear blazers and suits alot more.

So far I have been pretty succesful with this stylechange, but I lack in the tie department.

I have a few ties, but nothing speciel. One is black, so I have that covered. The rest are ready to get thrown out.

I want to spend some money on 2 quality ties, and being a Bond fan, I am really intrigued about Turnbull & Assers collection of ties.

But what should I get first? I was considering a navy blue Lace or Herringbone patterned tie, but dont know what else to get - colour wise.

My daily wear tends to be black suit or charcoal grey suit, with white/cream/light blue shirts and various tidbits. Nothing too overstated or flashy, but it doesent make me look 45 either.

Anyway, hope you can help me figure this out. I apologize for the noob question.

Right, I have been looking around a bit.. And these two ties caught my eye.

Lace pattern in navy - http://store.turnbullandasser.co.uk/...0010582_XL.jpg

Houndstooth in dark green/silver white - http://store.turnbullandasser.co.uk/...5006006_XL.jpg


The lace would obviously go with everything. The Herringbone stuff seems a bit too conservative for my taste. Would the houndstooth be suited for different colors etc, or is houndstooth not suitable for my age?

Both ties are versatile but if I had to pick, I would choose the navy as I think you would be able to get more usage out of it.

I was gonna go for both. I can afford 2 ties from T&A.

I considered a ascot once, but I guess even though I like it, it will seem very dated and not right in the context of being 21.

Btw, it does say green/white on T&As site, but that houndstooth does not really seem green to me. More navy... Does T&As web pictures tend to be correct to the real thing, or are they off a bit?
