Need Tie Advice

Hello all, first post, great to be here.

This is my first time owning a suit, and I'm just starting getting into nicer fashion and would love some advice.

I just purchased this suit and I would love to compliment my wife's dress she will be wearing for a family members wedding. It's not super formal and fancy but I want to dress nice and have nooo clue how to pick an appropriate tie (possibly a square also). My suit is light grey, light brown oxfords and belt, and will have a white shirt.

I am posting some ties I was looking at and the dress she plans on wearing.

Welcome to SF. For a wedding, with a light gray suit and white shirt, I would opt for a tie that reads as silver or silvery from a distance. Sort of like this on the right. B&W or navy and white shepherd's check is good for that. I'd probably go for the navy and white shepherd's check, myself. Less monochrome with a light gray suit than B&W or true silver. But if you want something like the photo, this Sam Hober would work.

It might sound counterintuitive at first, but I would wear a burgundy tie (similar to the color of the shirt you are wearing in the photo). It would complement your wife's dress and would also look great with a grey suit and white shirt. I wouldn't go for anything that's green, because you won't find the exact shade of the dress. And even if you do, it would look like you did it on purpose just to match the dress and green would also not look good with a light grey suit.

As for the pocket square, you can always wear a white one. If you want to spice things up a bit more then you can pick something yellow, for example. It would complement both, the burgundy tie and the green dress.

I like the first tie. It's more towards the grey colour of the suit and the floral print is not too busy. If you want to match the dress go for a single colour possibly in grey. You might get lucky and find a tie close to the green of the dress but you'd have to do some searching.
