I am kind of new to suits...I found a Hugo Boss suit in my price range...its on clearance. I generally wear a 38R. I am 5'10". Sometimes a 38R can be a little long.

My question is how much shorter is a 38S than a 38R...in general terms. Are shorts A LOOOT shorter than regulars?

sorry i know its kind of an odd question.

At 5'10" you should definately be a regular. The difference in a regular and a short is the height of the armhole as well as the length of the jacket. While length, with in a certain range, is open to personal taste, the jacket should always cover your posterior. In the case of a suit there will be a difference in the rise of the trousers. I am also 5'10" and wondering if I should go with a 38S instead of a 38R. I fit perfectly in the shoulders and chest but my torso length is 29"(L)/29.5"(R). Hence, since most 38R are 31" long, the 1.5 inch makes me hesitant.
