My first 'good' suit. How did I do? Oh and hello!

I found this Hickey Freeman Madison 3 button at Neiman Marcus Last Call.

I wanted black but this forum and others have convinced me that charcoal is versatile. I think my next suit will be a solid navy if I can find similar savings. I can't post pictures of me wearing it until I get it altered but I think this 38R fits much better than my old 40R's.

My first suit was also a Hickey-Freeman Madison in the Tasmanian 120s. I absolutely love it. Great choice. Take care of it and it will last you a long time.

like the suit! good choice. hickey freeman makes a classic, well made suit that will last you a long time, while looking good. you'll have to find a great shirt and tie to go with it-- might want to check out www.virtualclotheshorse.com , one of my favorite sources for something new at a discount.

I have that same suit or at least a very similar one. I like it a lot and it seems pretty versatile. Good find.

Thanks for the welcome!

With 1/5th of the 125,000 residents here being college students, I find that it's tough to dress well. I remember one winter I wore grey wool trousers, a white dress shirt, a navy sweater vest, with black loafers and people in the library were looking at me like I had a hump on my back.

No good stores here either. There's a run down Macy's and maybe one men's shop that sells Hickey Freeman/Jack Victor type at retail price. I think I finally found a good tailor though so that's a relief. After reading about $2 Hermes ties (!!) in the thrift shop thread I'm going to check out Good Will but I'm not expecting much.

I too like HF. I think you made a good choice, particularly going with charcoal over black. This suit should serve you well.

One thought about the pricing: Have you tried asking LC about a price adjustment? If you just purchased the suit, and if you can find a helpful sales associate, maybe they would help you out? We don't have a LC here, so I don't know how accomodating they are, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

As for your shoes, do you have a price range? If you really like boots, there are several dressy styles we might be able to point you toward. Of course, if you don't have plain black captoe bals for interviews and such, that would be a wise purchase. AE's Park Avenue is a good option.

Welcome aboard! Always nice to see new folks posting.

HF is good. But, the three button fad is on the way out.

Thanks Doc, The labor day sale specified no price price adjustment on previous purchases so I didn't think to ask. I guess it wouldn't have hurt! I don't have black cap toe balmorals and AE seems like an excellent value

Ideally, I would've gone 2 button. I think it looks way better on me. And solid charcoal instead of stripes. There aren't many options around here unfortunately so I couldn't afford to pass this one up.
