Can anyone compare the sizing to Clarks DBs?
Sorry for the revival.

Don't know if this'll help, but I wore size 7.5 in JCrew's copy of Clark DB, and I got size EUR 39 of Mr. B's Aldo boots. Size 41, usually equivalent to 7.5-8 US were huge, size 40 were still wide in the toe, size 39 is snug everywhere. Aldo online has a generous return policy, so I wouldn't worry about it.

My sizes:

Tru-Balance: 7.5
Polo Darlton: 7.5
AE 5 last: 8
Polo Edric/Rancourt Penny: 8
Clarks Desert Boot: 8
Various Sperry: 8/8.5/9

I ordered the boot in 8 and it was enormous. They do not do exchanges via mail and the nearest store is 90 miles away so I returned them. My luck has it that the day I received the boots, they went back to full price. Then I went on a 5 phone call spree with the customer service, was unable to get the discount, and it took 5 weeks before the refund was processed.

Anyway, I would definitely size down.

How would everybody compare the Grenson Sharp for $272 asos.com vs. Aldo Blake Cognac for $190 after tax? I had already copped the $272 Grenson Sharp, but thinking whether I should go for Aldo Blake to save this merely $82 bucks......

The Aldos were selling for ~$85 last week. They're back to the old price now, but I'd guess they'll be back on sale before too long.

All colors were "on sale" for ~$85 a week or two ago. I use quotes because the prices went back up after not too long, and my order for two pairs was canceled due to them being out of stock (even though the same sizes were still on the site), so I'm thinking it was a price mistake. This happened with a couple previous orders, though in those cases the sizes I ordered weren't available for a while, popped up site, and then were gone, so I think their inventory system just sucks. Worth a try anyway I guess.

Got both Grenson Sharp and Mr.B's Blake, Aldo for sure is no contest with Grenson, absolutely blown away for $160. But be fair, $160 for this boot is acceptable for me. Of course, $270 for a Grenson Sharp is extremely acceptable for me, so guys, make your decision base on your budget. :slayer:

I ordered the bordeaux Blakes last week. Today I recieved this email.

We would like to provide you with an update on your recent ALDOSHOES.COM order #XXXXXXX. In processing your order, we realized that we were unfortunately out of stock of the item(s) listed below. As such, we were obliged to cancel your order.

Talk about sorry service. I went to the website and they are still available to purchase from the site in my size. You'd think they'ed update the site. They took my money, no problem and say it will be refunded in 3-5 business days.

Just purchased a pair of Grenson Fred V (with the white Vibram soles) from "end" (Google "end clothing," they are out of Britain) for $315 + $15 Fed Ex = $330 delivered. I had to fill out a Homeland Security form, but it was quick and easy, no customs fee. I got them in 4 business days. I don't know if this is their usual price or a sale price, but these shoes are currently $470 @ Barney's. So, I own the Blake regular sole boot ($140) and the Fred V white sole ($330). I prefer the overall look of the Grenson, and the construction of the sole is better. Both have cosmetic flaws, the Blakes have more. Having said this, the Blake holds its own for the price. The Blake is more "orange," the Fred more "tan." Both have their place depending on the color of the denim/pant. Overall, they are pretty similar, you would generally not need both in your armamentarium.

EDIT: Check that, just got a bill from Fed Ex for $64.58 "duties, tax, customs, other fees."

eh, after wearing my blakes again the other day, I've decided that it was money wasted. I should have saved the cash and paid a bit more for AE daltons.

No doubt the Daltons are the better boot, but if you like the louder rougher-hewn look of the Blakes, they are decent for the price point.
