A 12" opening is like a pair of womens skinny jeans. I really dont think men have legs that slim...

No wonder these pants were annoying me. They're 9" laid flat. And they're RLBL. WTF. I just measured a pair of McQueen pants I have that are bordering tight and they are 7.5", so I think i'll go with 7 7/8" or 8".

Where do you guys usually tell your tailor to start the taper?

remember the smaller the trouser bottom, the shorter the trouser length. thats because the trouser hits the foots instep.
the wider the bottom, the longer the length can be.
imho the bottom should cover the laces on the shoe.
very narrow trouser legs exaggerate bow legs and also heavy calfs.
for those with long feet remember. narrow trouser legs make the feet look even longer.
but then ladies size you up by checking your feet dont they?

thanks a tailor. it seems that I'm just going to have to trial and error taper and length until I find that they work for me. such a hassle without a tailor that I trust or that can alter while i wait. i see lots of folks in the WAYRN thread with such perfect pants. do most alter, or do most buy pants that fit perfectly OTR?
