calves and cows are the same species, and my claim is precisely that “cowhide” is *not* used to refer to calfskin.

Then i wonder what the hell kinds of different animals are used as "cowhide."

How many different horse species are there? Do i need to worry?

I think most people in this thread/forum are aware that cowhide is used interchangeably to refer to multiple different bovine species.

Calfskin and cowhide are not interchangeable terms. Calfskin is very soft and pliable, and it's typically used for dress shoes. Cowhide is typically a heavier and more robust leather, and it's used for things such as jackets and workwear-styled belts.

The terms are often used in the industry in ways that don’t directly correspond to the animal, though. (Like cow vs steer at Schott means naked leather vs waterproofed leather.)

I know of at least 3. The Budweiser horses, normal horses, and those mini horses that Mongolians rode when Genghis Khan was running wild over much of Asia.
I hope FCL uses Budweiser horse

It's certainly true that "cow" is used to refer to the adult females of many different species, e.g., adult female seals and adult female buffalo, but if you're aware of "cowhide" being used to refer to the hide of an animal other than bos taurus, then … I would be really curious to know where you encountered that, I guess.

Haven't you already owned this jacket (with different linings) multiple times and it didn't fit in it?

different types of bbs taurus is what i mean, i've never had any maker pass off a seal as a cowhide although i can see how buffalo/bison can be grouped with that but the graining is very unique and you can tell easily.
