Got two Perform Better 1-pood competition bells during their free shipping sale. They were ~$75 apiece plus tax, yellow with bare metal handles. The handles are smooth but grippier than my Dragon Door kb. I think it would take chalk well.
If the handle is tearing up your hand, I don't think chalk would help - I assume yours are rough cast iron? I've seen it used on competition bells with smoother handles to give more grip for high-rep snatches/etc. but not to help rough handles.
